Supporting Kidds is the only nonprofit organization in Delaware devoted solely to supporting children who are grieving and their families. We believe that supporting this under served population with groups and individual counseling will help build resilience and the coping skills needed to adjust to their loss and look towards a positive future.
We recognize that there will always be children and families struggling with the tragic loss of loved ones. We also realize that we cannot prevent the events that cause grief. However, we can ensure that children who are grieving are provided quailty programs and individualized services necessary to begin their healing process.
How It Started
The year 1989 marked our beginnings as a small grassroots organization offering children a safe place to understand their grief and successfully adapt to their changed lives. Modeled after the Dougy Center in Oregon, Supporting Kidds provided peer support groups for grieving children using leased and donated space in the local community.
How Its Going
The year 2006 marked the realization of a long-standing dream and the beginning of a new era for Supporting Kidds. The purchase and renovation of our free-standing Center for Children and their families who are grieving enabled us to embark on many new possibilities in addressing the unique and complicated needs of children and families who are grieving in Delaware.
Our center has provided not only a safe place for grieving children and their families to participate in healing programs that bring hope for their future, it also serves as the central hub for our outreach programs that engage the community to support them in the grieving process.
